A Message from the Pastor...

Rev. Theresa Mason has been appointed as the new pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Wood River (and Alda). She holds a BS in Elementary Education from Southern Oregon University, her Bachelors and Doctoral of Ministry from Claremon School of Theology, and a Ph. D in Theater Arts with an emphasis in Sacred Theater from the University of Oregon. She has served as pastor of a number of churches in the California area, and as Chaplain and Associate Professor of Religion at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. Most recently, she has also had an appointment beyond the local church, directing the Earthen Pot Theatre, which is a creative ministries organization. Earthen Pot Theatre has allowed her to do consulting, writing, and develop creative ministries. Rev. Mason is looking forward to returning to parish life that includes intergeneration relationships of seniors, adults, youth, and children, instead of working solely with college students who move on after four years. She also has missed the rhythm of regular preaching and the relationship between pastor and parishioners. Theresa's hobbies include theater, pottery, ventriloquism, reading, and sewing. Her husband John LeCompte, is an accomplished high school science teacher specializing in physics and chemistry. The couple has two adopted children. Their son, Logan LeCompte, just completed his first year at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota, so they're pleased to stay close enough that he can travel home a couple of times a semester. Their daughter, Mozelle Mason, will be a freshman in high school in the fall. Theresa's first Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Wood River will be July 4th. A potluck lunch for both congregations to welcome her to the area will be held at noon the the 4th at Alda United Methodist Church.
